Objectives:

Knowledge without application to real-world problems has little value. This course aims to promote the acquisition of knowledge in gamete and embryo physiology, through a series of lectures, detailed discussion of the literature, combined with the integration of this knowledge in the application to assisted reproduction in animal species. This intensive short course goes beyond the dissemination of information on this highly relevant subject and explores the use of basic biological concepts applied to the improvement of agricultural production through advanced reproductive technologies.

Justificativa:

Rationale:

The application of assisted reproduction is now common in human and animal clinical practice. Brazil leads the world in the application of bovine-assisted reproductive technologies, such as oocyte recovery, in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer. It is essential that veterinary and graduate students have knowledge about the fundamental science of reproductive biology and, in addition, the application of this knowledge, in order to be competitive and continue to be innovative on the field.

Type of Assessment:

Full content final exam (70%), participation (10%) and written papers (20%), whose final score (0-10), obtained by simple arithmetic mean, will determine the final concept (A,B,C,R), considering the respective intervals: 10-9 (A); 8-7 (B); 6-5 (C); 4-0 (R). Written papers: this task consists of a critical review of published articles.
