-	Understand the concept of human development and the dimensions that contribute to the Human Development Index.

-	Relate the dimensions that contribute to the Human Development Index to health inequities.

-	Compare and contrast the health equity variables between Brazil and the United States.

-	Evaluate the system and policies that influence the health equity gap between and within countries.

-	Identify the role of the professional nurse between countries at the local level to address health inequities.

Programa Resumido
Students from both Brazil and the United States will collaborate to explore human development information through the United Nations Human Development Index to compare and contrast selected health indicators. The HDI - Human Development Index is a way to measure well-being within a country. The HDI can query policy choices and evaluate differences between countries. Policy and system level contributors will be identified and compared between countries. The role of the professional nurse in addressing these inequities will be explore. The official language of the course is English.
 
Programa
The concept of human development and the dimensions that contribute to the HDI; HDI and health inequities, health equity variables between Brazil and the US; Systems and policies that influence health equity gap between and within countries; the role of the professional nurse between countries at the local level to address health inequities.

Cognitive knowledge:
Knowledge about HDI and health inequities as well as the influence of the health equity gap between and within countries.

Procedural knowledge:
Ability to work collaboratively across cultures to address health disparities.

Attitudinal knowledge:
Development of intercultural competencies and skills to deal  with health inequities.


Teaching Methods:
Lectures, case studies and classroom discussions. The classes will occur simultaneously using videoconference and zoom.
 
Avaliação
     
Método
Students will be evaluated by their participation in the discussions and presentation of case studies. Forum in Sakai (2 by Dr. Ventura and 2 by Dr. Carter); Refection (Journal); Presentation.
Critério
40% - Participation in the Classroom Discussions; 60% - Presentation of Case Study; Minimum score for approval: 5.0 and minimum frequency: 70%.
Norma de Recuperação
There is no supplementary exam.
