Trata-se de examinar determinados temas da História dos Estados Unidos — do período nacional (últimas décadas do século XVIII ao XX) — eleitos pela historiografia norte-americana. Visa capacitar e instrumentalizar os alunos para a devida difusão do saber histórico referente à análise historiográfica, aos produtos da pesquisa, alcançando o ensino em diferentes níveis (fundamental, médio e superior).
O conteúdo do curso visa estimular o debate sobre as transformações sociais, políticas, econômicas e culturais daquele país. O objetivo é avaliar as especificidades da História dos Estados Unidos e a complexidade sociocultural norte-americana. Portanto, inclui assuntos de história política, econômica, social, intelectual cultural do século XVIII ao XX.
